From Stove-Top To Rival Crock Pot

February 2nd, 2009

As a mom to 4 hungry kids and 1 hungry hubby I have to think easy, inexpensive and quick.

Rival crock pot cooking gives me all three.

Creating family meals just would not be complete without including the use of a crock pot slow cooker.

Here’s why:

Benefits of using the Crock Pot Slow Cooker

  • Saves time – prepare your meals first thing in the morning and enjoy them as you walk through the door after work!
  • Saves Money- you can purchase cheaper cuts of meat and slow cook for 8 hrs to produce tender, delicious meals.
  • Saves energy – saves your energy as well as your energy bill. No more heating the whole house just to cook a meal. And no more slaving over the stove top preparing dinner after along day at work.

Converting Stove-Top Recipes

Most of your favorite recipes can be cooked in the crock pot slow cooker. Following some simple guidelines will help ensure your end results are delicious every time. Here are few suggestions to keep in mind when converting stove-top recipes into Crockpots Mama family meals :

  • Liquids – decrease to 1/2 the called for amount in your recipe. Milk should only be added during the last hour of cooking as it breaks down over extended periods of cooking time.
  • Spices – add when cooking is almost complete as spices tend to evaporate over long cooking time.
  • Beans – soak your beans first until they are soft for better crock pot cooking results.
  • Cream soups – these are great substitute for milk and hold up for longer cooking
  • Vegetables – cut about 1 inch thick and place in crock pot first as they need more cooking time and will be tender and delicious when the meal is done.

When you look at the benefits of using a crock pot slow cooker with the ease of your family favorite recipes then coverting from stove-top to Rival crock pot becomes a no brainer!!

I have heard that you need to cut down the liquids, but never got a quantity. Thank you for that tip.

I know that milk doesn’t cook well for longer periods of time. I remember seeing a commercial on television about “the cooking milk,” and I wonder if it is a good substitute. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what type of milk was in the ad… maybe evaporated milk?
